Jonh Cooper Clarke
18 May 2007OK, I realise I’m a bit behind on this one. In fact, the late-ometer is registering in decades rather than merely weeks or months but whatever; whilst catching up on 6 new episodes of the Sopranos I didn’t even know existed the other day, I made my discovery. This was no doubt made along with a few other people who, when watching the final sequence of episode 15 in which further homage was paid to the christening scene from the Godfather, albeit in a not-shooting-Mo-Green-in-the-eye kinda way, a rather catchy tune was used as backing. The tune’s vocals were provided, I discovered after a cursory google on the lyrics, by none other than gritty urban poet Mr John Cooper Clarke.
I’m sure I’ve heard of him before but I’m counting this particular tune as a separate discovery. Chickentown
There’s a version of the tune with the lyrics here, although I haven’t yet watched the accompanying video so I have no idea what it’s about.
